Improvements at Whitletts
A ?3.5 million scheme to relieve congestion and improve
traffic flow at Whitletts Roundabout on the A77 in Ayrshire was
completed in 2006. The roundabout carries 33,000 vehicles a day
and provides links to Stranraer, Prestwick and Ayr communities. Cathy Jamieson, Minister for Justice, said: "Local
drivers, commuters and visitors alike will be pleased to know that
Whitletts has benefited from a ?3.5 million upgrade. I welcome
completion of these works that have been delivered on time and I want to
thank the travelling public for their patience while improvements have
been ongoing. "This key part of the A77 will now be able to
cope with more vehicles thanks to increased capacity and will have a
better traffic flow thanks to the installation of traffic signals.
For some time, this roundabout has suffered from heavy congestion that
has had an impact on the daily lives of local people and businesses. "I am delighted that the improvement works, which will bring significant benefits to Ayrshire have been completed on time."
